Yoga Lab Co-Founders Anna & Jeremy Engels have gone on two pilgrimages with Shantum, β€œIn the Footsteps of the Buddha” through India and Nepal in 2018, and most recently β€œReturn to the Source” through Vietnam and Cambodia in 2023. He is visiting from India so this is a rare opportunity to learn from him in State College, PA.

Please note that Power Lunch is canceled this Thursday so that Anna and others can attend this event.

    About Shantum Seth:

Shantum Seth is a Dharmacharya (teacher) in the Zen Buddhist lineage (of the Venerable Thich Nhat Hanh). He has been teaching in India, Asia and across the world, and has been leading pilgrimages β€˜In the Footsteps of the Buddha' and other multi-faith and transformative journeys since 1988.

He is actively involved in social, environmental and educational programs including work on bringing mindfulness to schools and universities, the police and paramilitary forces amongst other. This is pioneered by the non-profit trust, Ahimsa, of which he is the guiding teacher.

He is a Senior Advisor to the World Bank and also advises the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India on Pilgrimage Tourism. He worked in the corporate sector and later in social advocacy and development, fifteen years of which were with the United Nations Development Program, managing programs on volunteer promotion and artisan development across 16 countries.

His commitment to a cross-cultural understanding, with a mission of β€˜Peace in Oneself, Peace in the World’ has led him to travel to more than 60 countries and nearly every state of India. Having lived in England, the USA and France (in a monastery) for over 14 years, he now lives with his family in Dehradun, in the foothills of the Indian Himalayas.

  • Sound Meditation: Thurs April 18, 6:45 - 8:00pm

Joshua's sound meditations include conversations around sound, spirituality, and consciousness, followed by a soundscape consisting of instruments such as gong, singing bowls, chimes, and other overtone emitting instruments. We then finish in a unified space for sharing our experiences. Through judicious listening, we create a supportive space for rejuvenation, deep relaxation, quieting the mind, self inquiry, bringing awareness to the inner processes of the mind, connecting with our higher self, and promoting self-observation, self-worth, and so much more!

"To listen is to lean in softly with the willingness to be changed by what you hear." - Mark Nepo

    When: Thursday April 18, 6:45 - 8:00 pm

Cost: $20 (Yoga Lab UNLIMITED Members get 30% off)

    About Joshua:

Over the past 5 years, Joshua has studied and worked with NYC's Woom Center, world-renowned sound researcher and ethnomusicologist, Alexandre Tennous, and other facilitators, professors, and doctors from around the globe studying the effects sound has on the brain and body. He also completed his RYT 200 under Kristen Boccumini in 2016 and continued to teach at Yoga Lab that following year. You may also find Joshua cooking for communities, drinking cacao, playing guitar, and smiling for no reason whatsoever.

  • Diversity, Equity, & Inclusivity Scholarships available for 200-Hr Yoga Teacher Training

Yoga Lab is committed to diversity, equity, inclusivity, and accessibility (DEIA) in yoga. We recognize that there are inequities in the systems that surround yoga, and we want to do what we can to create an equitable and inclusive yoga environment at Yoga Lab. One of the best ways we can do that is to support the training of new teachers from underrepresented communities in order to amplify a diverse range of voices in yoga teaching.

This scholarship is intended for Black, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC) and/or LGBTQ applicants who are interested in teaching yoga. Priority for these scholarships will be given to local applicants who are interested in teaching in-person classes at our Yoga Lab Studio space in State College, PA, and are legally able to do so (e.g., without visa conflicts). Priority will be given to applicants who are driven to create access to yoga for underserved communities or populations.

Yoga Lab will award up to 3 of these DEIA Scholarships for 30% off the training tuition.

  • 200-Hr Yoga Teacher Training - Continuing Education Discount for Current Yoga Teachers

Please indicate if you have already completed a RYT200 program and answer the related questions in the application.

Not all 200hr yoga teacher trainings are the same. We believe strongly that the firm foundation of the material in this training will enrich and expand any previous RYT200 credential. If you want to learn more about anatomy, sequencing, assisting, mindfulness, meditation, injury prevention, and functional movement to be able to better support your students, this training is for you. We’re confident that you’ll learn so much more new information in this training!
